Hello! My name is Jamie Dodge (Ms. Jamie). I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in Child Development with a concentration in Preschool Teaching in an Early Childhood Setting. I graduated several years ago, and moved back to the area in 2022. I was raised in Marquette and I’m so glad to be back and working with children and families from the UP!

I started at Discovery Central full-time in April 2024, and I feel like I have found the perfect job for me! It has been wonderful getting to know everyone in the last few months, and I can’t wait to continue to getting to know families, both new and returning! I have a great passion for early childhood education, and particularly the unique ways children can explore in an outdoor setting. There is nothing quite like taking children out into the forest. I was filled with awe the first time I went through that small red door in our fence with a group of children. The Reggio Emilia approach that inspires Discovery Central’s practices has always been of interest to me and was already something incorporated into my past work.

Discovery Central aligns perfectly with my teaching philosophies, and I’m so excited and honored to be a part of the special things happening here! Atelierista

Hello wonderful families, I'm Courtnie, the Atelierista at Discovery Central Forest School.

Originally from the quaint farming community of Mason, I fulfilled my dream of relocating to the U.P just over a year ago. The natural beauty and sense of community have always captivated me, and I'm grateful to now call it home.

I share my home with four delightful and mischievous cats. In my free time, I enjoy a variety of activities including hiking, fishing, camping, geocaching, crafting, and gardening. Exploring the outdoors not only rejuvenates me but also fuels my passion for integrating nature into learning experiences for children. I believe every moment spent outdoors is an opportunity for discovery and growth.

I have an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Development & Education and two decades of experience in the field. I've been deeply influenced by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. This approach emphasizes the importance of child-led learning, creativity, and collaboration. My journey as an educator has been enriched by witnessing the profound impact on children's development through hands-on experiences and exploration.

My teaching style is centered around nature, community, art, and play-based learning. I believe that fostering a sense of wonder and curiosity is essential for nurturing lifelong learners. Whether we're planting seeds in our garden, collaborating on a mural, or going on nature walks to observe the changing seasons, every moment in the classroom is an opportunity for new learning experiences.

I'm thrilled to embark on this journey with such an incredible school and team of educators. Together, we'll create a nurturing environment where children can thrive, explore, and discover the wonders of the world around them. I look forward to meeting everyone and building meaningful connections with both children and families.
